Examples of ways easyhome employees raised money for the 2005 Backpack Challenge
 

eashyhome CEO David Ingram delivers the goods. The company's first annual "Backpack Challenge" netted $52,000 to purchase 1,500 youth and children backpacks, filled with school supplies. Ingram and company CFO Bill Johnson delivered the backpacks to Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada Friday, August 26th.

On Friday August 26th, David Ingram, President & CEO of easyhome (EH.TO) Ltd., Canada's largest rent to own company, rode a BIG, YELLOW, school bus to drop off 200 backpacks to both the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club and Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club.

As the school bus pulled up to the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club, David was greeted by Tony Puopolo, Executive Director, and introduced to the more than 150 anxious and excited children assembled on the gym bleachers. Club members and easyhome staff unloaded the 200 backpacks, from the school bus and handed them out to some of the children. A young member of the club presented David with a club card, making him and easyhome honourary Boys and Girls Club members. Tony invited David to make a handprint in cement, which will be displayed on the Club’s wall of fame. See photos of the days events

Next, everyone hopped on the bus and headed to the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club, where David was met by Glenn Harkness, Executive Director and two club members and lead into the gym where 180 children were waiting his arrival, with the 200 backpacks. The visit was completed, with a presentation by two young club members and a tour of the facility.

In Edmonton, 30 club members and their families greeted Bill Johnson, CFO of easyhome Ltd., when his school bus came down the road. Bill was welcomed by Jill Didow, Director of Fund Development and Marketing & Communications of the Edmonton Boys and Girls Club and introduced to all the children.

On July 15 & 16th, all 153 easyhome locations participated in the first annual “Backpack Challenge”. The objective of this charity event was to have each of our stores and both offices, participate in a charity drive to raise funds to purchase backpacks, filled with school supplies. Some of our stores, held car washes, BBQs, raffles, bake-sales, pie-throwing events, and even raised money to ‘shave their hair’.

David Ingram, President & CEO stated, “It is my pleasure to announce that easyhome raised over $52,000. This is the result of the supportive efforts of over 800 employees and corporate vendors. This money was used to purchase 1500 youth and children backpacks, filled with school supplies. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and the remaining 900 backpacks will be distributed to several Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the country. I would like to reaffirm easyhome’s commitment to our charitable partners, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. We will continue to invest in Canada’s most precious national resource, our children!”

In 2004, easyhome, Canada’s largest merchandise rental company, announced its charity partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Canada. easyhome has raised funds through their employee payroll deduction program and other initiatives such as the Christmas and Backpack fundraisers. There are approximately 104 local Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, which serve 150,000 young people in 726 community-based locations in 28 different languages.
