How to dispose of used mattresses
is an issue facing every rent-to-own company. The International
Sleep Products Association will make that job a little easier
with the addition of a new Sustainability section on its
Website. The new section features a
list
of existing companies that collect and recycle used mattresses
in California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oregon and South
Carolina. ISPA will add more states as information comes
available.
ISPA hopes consumers and the media will recognize that mattress
producers and their suppliers are taking environmentally sound
and economically practical actions to improve the long-term
sustainability of the industry. With this new offering, ISPA has
created a resource for its members to better appreciate the many
ways they can contribute to a sustainable future.
"We've created the new Sustainability section to not only keep
our members abreast of green developments that affect our
industry, but to give ISPA members tools that they can use to
learn more about how to improve the environmental performance of
their businesses and their products," noted ISPA vice president
and general counsel, Ryan Trainer. "Members can use this site to
locate used mattress component recycling facilities that may be
operating near them, find outlets for recycled materials they
want to sell, and learn about ISPA's efforts to improve the
recycling of used mattress components."
"Knowledge leads to action, and by making information readily
available to the industry through this new section of our
Website, hopefully more companies will pursue sustainable
product offerings and practices," said Dick Doyle, ISPA
president and chief executive officer.
